Types of Commercial Air-Conditioning
Commercial buildings including smaller offices, cafes and shops, to more larger buildings including multi-storey offices, hospitals, restaurants and supermarkets all require a diverse range of air conditioning units. The type of commercial air conditioning unit depends on a number of factors including the building size, the number of levels, the building location (warmer or cooler climate), budget and energy efficiency. Knowing which commercial air conditioner to choose can be quite confusing, so we have compiled a list of the most common commercial air conditioning systems available, to allow you to be more informed when making your choice.
Single Split System Air Conditioners
Are considered one of the most popular air conditioners for small business including smaller offices, server rooms, cafes and clothing stores. Split System air conditioners consist of an indoor and outdoor unit and require no ductwork which makes them more affordable and quieter, as the noisier component of the unit is located outside. The indoor unit is usually wall mounted and is ideal to cool one room, or a specific area of the office. The benefits of the Split System air conditioner are it can heat and cool, it uses less space and comes in a wide range of sizes and styles to match your commercial needs.
Ducted Multi Split System Air Conditioners
Are able to heat and cool and are a suitable choice if you have a larger commercial space including doctor surgeries, restaurants and milk bars. Multi Split Systems are usually more complex and more expensive than Single Split System air conditioners, due to the installation of all the ductwork. The benefits of Ducted Multi Split System units are they only have one central unit which is installed outside, this saves a lot of space compared to using several Single Split Systems air conditioners and can be more aesthetically appealing.
Rooftop Packaged Air Conditioning Unit
Are a self contained heating and air conditioning system used in larger commercial and industrial buildings. This large unit is usually mounted on the roof and ideal for buildings where there is not a lot of floor/wall space. These units are ideal for heating and cooling many rooms and have the benefit of climate control.
Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) also known as Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV)
Are commercial air conditioners designed for larger commercial and industrial buildings such as factories, hotels, hospitals, multi level offices and aged care facilities. VRF/VRV units have the ability to maintain individual zone control in each room and each floor of the building, meaning one room can be warmer, while another is cooler. VRF/VRV air conditioners are available in a Heat Pump system or Heat Recovery system. Heat Pump VRF/VRV systems can provide heating or cooling at any given time, which is ideal for larger open plan areas. A VRF/VRV Heat Recovery system can cool and heat areas simultaneously making this system suitable for commercial buildings with lots of individual rooms.
