The history of Mitsubishi Electrics
Mitsubishi Electrics are one of the world’s leading brands in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, for both residential and commercial use. Mitsubishi pride themselves on producing energy efficient air conditioners of the highest standard and have become one of the highest selling brands in Australia.
So let us tell you more about this iconic brand!
The Mitsubishi company was originally established as a shipping firm by Yataro Iwasaki in 1870 and the current logo is derived from the three-layer family crest of Yataro’s family. Over the next fifty years the company bought into coal mining and aircraft manufacturing, before establishing the Mitsubishi Electric’s Company in 1921. The same year, Mitsubishi Electrics released its first mass-produced consumer product for the home, an electrical desk fan which became an instant success.

By the 1930’s Mitsubishi began to manufacture air coolers, which were just as popular. Over the next 20 years technology and research was rapidly developing and Mitsubishi established their first “commercial division” in 1954. The same year, they began to focus on the residential market and produced their first home air conditioning unit.
As production grew, Mitsubishi expanded their company and began operations in Australia in 1967. The following year in 1968, Mitsubishi released a wall mounted room air conditioner and were beginning to establish themselves in the Australian air conditioning market.
By 1978 Mr.Slim Systems were introduced which would become one of Australia’s best selling air conditioning split-systems. This range is ideal for commercial use in a variety of situations such as offices, restaurants and shops.
Two years later in 2000, Inverter Technology was introduced. Inverters electronically control the electrical voltage, current and frequency of electrical devices such as the compressor motor in an air conditioner to regulate the air conditioner output. This results in reduced electricity usage and provides the most comfortable room environment.
Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) for commercial use became available in 2003. The City Multi VRF is Mitsubishi Electric’s answer to energy efficient large-scale air conditioning applications, such as shopping centres, apartments, hotels, motels and commercial sites.
By 2009 Mitsubishi established their Energy Efficient Air Conditioning Systems to ensure optimal cost performance. To gain more information about their “Mitsubishi Electric Quality Standards”.
Today, Mitsubishi Electric have achieved further success with their award winning Signature Series Air Conditioners which have Wi-Fi Air Conditioning Control. This advance in technology connects your domestic Mitsubishi Electric High Wall and Floor Mounted air conditioner, to your smart phone, tablet or online account.
Mitsubishi continue to be a world leader in air conditioning, with operations in over 35 countries and more than 120,000 employees. They continue to sell a wide variety of types and sizes of air conditioners with prices starting at around $600.
